Not Too Old To Join a Choir

Jackie – Contributer

Read this inspiring story about Jackie who after her husband joined a choir
got the music bug as well.

My love of music goes back to my childhood. I played a couple of musical instruments whilst at school and have always enjoyed participating in anything musical.

About 5 years ago my husband joined a choir – he has always loved singing and had sung in a few choirs in the past. Rock Choir offers the opportunity for anyone to join – there are NO auditions or the need to read music. In fact all the qualifications required is to love singing. I went to one of their concerts and caught the Rock Choir bug!

So along with a friend I went along to a “taster” session and for an hour and a half I was caught up in the Rock Choir magic. The choir offers an opportunity to leave all my troubles at the door and completely emerge myself in singing with a great group of people. At the end of the session I can honestly say I feel such a buzz from singing.

Although I knew the choir leader – I know it can be intimidating walking into a room of strangers but everyone is so friendly and the great feeling I get from singing in a choir helps with coping with the dad to day things life throws at us. I have made some lovely friends and we have had to opportunity to sing at some fantastic venues – The O2, The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Stadium to name a few along with small local venues supporting local charities. There is no pressure to participate in any of these concerts.

So my advice would be to give it a go – you can sign up for a “taster” session without obligation. I can guarantee you will have a spring in your step when you leave!!
