Jill Graphic Designer

I’m Jill and in Feb 2015 at the age of 53 I set-up my own graphic design business. I’d been thinking about it for a few years when I was outsourcing design work and realised I was doing all the set up and explanation and problem solving for the supplier.

The idea took form when the companies I’d worked for (Cosmos Holidays/Monarch/Archers Tours) were going through hard times and the owners decided to sell up. That meant the companies being split and my job disappeared down a hole. I was offered a lesser role but decided the time was right to take the redundancy and try my luck on my own. A massive appeal was breaking my 22 year daily commute to/from Bromley!

It was a challenge to convince myself it was the right thing to do, but I am glad I did. The decision has given me some hours in the day back to use more effectively than sitting in traffic. I have more freedom to work flexibly and have time for other things (golf, garden, friends). As long as I have WIFI I can work anywhere. The next steps are to keep building it up. I already have a website (www.greenleafltd.co) and now need to add a Facebook page, deliver leaflets to local businesses, go to trade fairs to generate leads.

If I was to do it all again I would work on possible leads a bit more, prior to starting the business. However, the approach I have taken is working pretty well so far!
